Barrels
Locally manufactured pull button barrels from carbon and stainless steelBarrel Types
Both carbon steel and stainless steel produce accurate barrels. The choice is yours. Any barrel is only as good as its metallurgical and physical properties and the precision of the manufacturing process. That is why we use only the best quality steels in the world and take the upmost care during manufacturing. Remember that a barrel is a consumable product that needs to be replaced when it get worn. We can manufacture barrels up to 32”(812mm). Regularly inspection of your barrel for throat erosion, worn lands or pit marks as a result of rust. Then select a new barrel with the correct rifling twist for your needs. Bullet and barrel manufacturers often use different tolerances. So finding the right combination of bullet size and bore diameter is important important because accurate shooting is not only about holding the rifle steady when you fire. For the gunsmiths please use the correct oil for the chambering. We can supply you with the correct sulfur base cutting oils, especially for the hard stainless steel.Carbon Steel Barrels
Stainless Steel Barrels
17-4PH
The norm for stainless steel barrels is 416R but we use 17-4PH from an Italian supplier. This steel is normally used in receivers and also has a hardness of 32 Rockwell or 300HB. The 416R steel has a hardness of 28 Rockwell.
We prefer 17-4PH because it contains 2.7% more chrome than 416R and has a 4.5% nickel content. These properties result in a very smooth, mirror-like finish when the rifling button is pulled through the barrel. Not only is 17-4PH known for its machinability, but also for its marginal “steel memory”, resistance against corrosion, impact, and resistance against wear. As mentioned, stainless steel barrels foul less (less copper-fouling) than carbon steel barrels and we at Eagle Barrels feel that 17-4PH is currently one of the best barrel steel available.
416R
In the rifle barrel world 416R need no introduction. RUCIBLE 416R is a hardenable chromium stainless steel particularly suited for use in high quality precision rifle barrels. This grade has good machinability and, because of closely controlled chemistry and processing techniques, may be machined and lapped to a high finish, which is important for bore accuracy. We managed to source steel from the same mill that supply Krieger and Broughton barrels .The harness of the steel are +-28 Rockwell.Carbon fibre Barrels
Carbon fibre has been developed mainly for proportional weight and strength properties. When employed in a rifle barrel the benefits extend beyond reducing weight and increasing strength. We turn down your match-grade carbon or stainless-steel barrel blanks to a significantly reduced profile to reduce weight. The contoured barrel is then wrapped with high-strength, aerospace-grade carbon fibre and impregnated with resin. Carbon fibre has a unique ability to diffuse heat along the length of the barrel. The effective heat transportation results that the barrels cool down faster. This result that the barrel maintains accuracy over longer sessions of fire and longer barrel live.
If your choice is for:
- Durability
- 20-40% lighter than similar contours
- Better heat dissipation
- Heat reduction for longer lasting barrels
- Better barrel stiffness
- No point-of-impact shift during high-volume fire
- Reduced harmonic barrel vibration
Do the right Thing

Combination/
Structured Barrels
The heavy amour barrel manufacturers struggled for many years with the weight of long barrels, the strength and stiffness. They realized to sleeve a thin barrel they achieve both weight reduction, strength and stiffness
We applied the same principal by sleeving a fluted barrel. The fluting helps with heat evacuation and weight reduction. The sleeve and flute combination form a strong I-beam configuration with an estimated 70% increase in stiffening of the barrel and thus make it almost harmonically dead. We placed breather wholes at the chamber to create a venturi draft to cool down the chamber up to 30%. This gives the barrel killer (the throat) a 30% life extension. The weight of the barrel is almost the same as a heavy varmit barrel. The Combination of the sleeve, structural strength and heat depensation makes this a must have barrel.

Calibre names vs Bore and groove diameters
We offer a good range of calibres, twist rates and type of lands but expand our range regularly so please let us know if you have any special requests. We are currently working on five-groove, canted buttons and will at a later stage also add a three-groove version. 5 Groove canted lands have opposing groove and lands which results in less bullet jacket deformation and better gas seal. Slope lands clean easier. However, irrespective of your preferences pertaining to rifling twist, type of grooves, etc, we guarantee accurate barrels. Our company policy is: “Consistency brings accuracy.”
Calibre names vs Bore and groove diameters
The naming of calibres is a very confusing subject. Some calibres are named after the bore dimensions and some after the groove dimensions. For some calibres the Imperial system is used and for some the metric system but even that can be very confusing because the true bore or groove diameters are not always used.Typical 6 Groove

Profile & Contouring
We offer a variety of barrel contours. Below is a guideline for the measurements for different contour styles. We will gladly custom-contour a barrel to your specifications.

Fluting
In firearms terminology fluting refers to the removal of material from a cylindrical surface, usually creating grooves. Fluting often means removing material from a rifle barrel but may also refer to the cylinder of a revolver or the bolt of a bolt-action rifle. Rifle barrels and revolver cylinders usually carry straight flutes while rifle bolts are often helically fluted. Sometimes rifle barrels are also helically fluted though. The main purpose of fluting is to reduce weight and to a lesser extent increase the rigidity of a barrel for its given total weight. Or to increase the outside surface area to make the barrel less susceptible to overheating. Although a fluted barrel might cool down a little faster a non-fluted barrel will always be more rigid and heat up slower – the price you pay, however, is additional weight.Straight Fluting
